Shutesbury Policy Committee sends homeschooling policy to full School Committee

Shutesbury's School Committee Policy Committee unanimously advanced its homeschooling policy and five related measures to the full School Committee at its January 15 meeting. The committee voted to move policy IHBG, which governs homeschooling and now includes a Shutesbury-specific paragraph alongside standard Massachusetts Association of School Committees model language, out of second read. Five additional policies — IHBA, IHBD, IHBF, IHBH, and IJL, covering homebound instruction and library materials selection and adoption — were also cleared for full committee review, with one title correction applied to IHBF after a member flagged that the district's staff title differs from the MASC template.

The committee also corrected its December 18, 2025 minutes, noting that four policies had been incorrectly marked as advancing when they were meant to stay in committee for further review. A member noted during discussion that an out-of-district alternative school placement is currently "our biggest budget driver" heading into the next fiscal year.
