School Committee · Meeting of October 15, 2026

Shutesbury's School Committee policy subcommittee advanced seven draft policies to the full board, including a new rule on staff interactions with civil immigration enforcement. Chair Leah Jack and member Katrina Catalano, the only two present, approved each motion unanimously. The new policy responds to the state's Protect Act, which took effect in August, but district staff member Shannon told the panel "I don't have a timeline" for when implementation procedures will arrive from the state.

Catalano also pressed on whether Shutesbury has a functioning Community Parent Advisory Council; Shannon said no, despite three years of outreach that drew just one parent to the most recent meeting. A related policy, EFBA, was held for the subcommittee's November session.
