School Committee Delays Handbook, Shuffles Subcommittees
School Committee · Meeting of September 17, 2026
Shutesbury School Committee delays handbook vote and reshuffles subcommittee duties amid capital-project overload. Chair Leah and Vice Chair Nate swapped the budget and personnel subcommittee seat after Nate said he was stretched across capital planning and other roles, with Leah warning it was "shocking to hear, oh, well, $750,000 for next year's paving, but no plan ahead of it." Director of Finance and Operations Caitlin reported the district accepted $83,442.26 in rural aid and $20,296 in federal rural-education grant funds, while an unrelated consultant estimate pegs driveway and parking lot reconstruction at $500,000 to $700,000. The committee also heard the school's only playground remains wheelchair-inaccessible because of the deteriorating driveway, and scheduled an October 1 leadership training on bullying-investigation procedures following a special-education audit.
Members unanimously adopted three district policies, IJLA, IJND and IJNDB, and pushed final approval of the family handbook to October.
