Select Board Votes to Accept Donated House
Select Board · Meeting of September 2, 2026
Shutesbury Select Board accepts a donated Cooleyville Road house and widens Lake Wyola committee eligibility to 2,000 feet. Attorney Michael Hooker, trustee for the late owner's estate, told the board "I need the town basically to fish or cut bait," prompting a unanimous vote to accept the property and reimburse Hooker $1,200 in real estate taxes. Realtor Heather Ferrari estimated the house could sell for $100,000 or more despite septic and title uncertainties.
The board also set an October 17 special town meeting and heard the town administrator warn of a $208,000 fiscal 2028 budget gap tied to two years of paused capital stabilization contributions. The town separately secured a $250,000 state grant for dam engineering and roughly $81,000 in automatic winter-storm aid.
