Health board delegates septic sign-off to agent
Board of Health · Meeting of September 2, 2026
Shutesbury Board of Health confirms West Nile-positive mosquitoes, streamlines a septic fix. Board of Health Agent Cat Hilton told the five-member board that mosquitoes trapped on Jenison Road tested positive for West Nile virus, saying "it's a mosquito positive, not a human positive," and that she would send a town-wide warning and October newsletter notice. The board voted 4-0 to let Hilton approve, once filed, a Disposal Works Construction Permit for a cracked septic tank at 128 Leverett Road, charging $50 per replaced component for a $100 total fee.
Members separately approved, 4-0, a well permit for new construction at 110 Leverett Road. Hilton said a beaver dam suspected near a culvert on Jenison Road may be the mosquitoes' breeding ground, calling it "obviously a public health issue," and asked member Garrett to flag it to the town's emergency management team.
