SHUTESBURY — April 14, 2026 — Shutesbury Select Board hears Army Corps report clearing drinking water near former radar site. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project manager Grace Carmichael and contractor Travis Williamson of Tidewater presented July-August 2025 investigation results at Parcel 032, the town-owned library property at 66 Leverett Road, showing petroleum contamination from a long-removed underground storage tank is confined to a 45-foot radius and poses no detected risk to drinking water wells located 600 to 950 feet away. The board pressed for clarity on potential future MassDEP monitoring requirements once the FUDS program concludes — a question Carmichael said she would need to answer separately. The board voted unanimously to execute a three-year contract renewal with Town Administrator Haley Bolton, approved a 33-article Annual Town Meeting warrant for May 9, and appointed Mateo Pongalo as deputy constable.
