Shutesbury Library Trustees Unanimously Approve Long-Range Plan, Set September Meeting

Library Trustees · Meeting of July 27, 2026

Shutesbury Library Trustees approved the library's new long-range plan and elected officers for the coming year at their July 27 meeting. The board voted unanimously by roll call to approve the plan, which will be signed and submitted to the Montachusett Valley Library Consortium; the document drew praise for its use of Google Forms survey data, bar graphs, and a SOAR analysis developed largely by Simmons University intern Sam Speziak. Brad was re-confirmed as treasurer and a new secretary was elected by roll call, with all present voting yes on both.

Library Director Marianne reported accepting a national American Library Association award in Chicago on the main stage before a former First Lady's keynote address, returning with roughly 70 donated books for the collection. The board also reviewed a new town hybrid-meeting policy and flagged that a permanent state Open Meeting Law standard taking effect in July 2027 will require physical quorums at all public meetings, a shift the director said will add administrative labor and could pressure space at the library.
