Shutesbury Library Trustees adopt unattended child, art exhibit policies

SHUTESBURY — March 30, 2026 — Shutesbury Library Trustees approved two new policies and tabled a proposed room-rental insurance requirement at their March 30 meeting. The board voted unanimously to adopt an unattended child policy and a community meeting room art exhibit policy, both amended with editorial and substantive corrections during the meeting, including a clarification that professional credentials are not required of artists who wish to display work. A debate over whether to require renters to carry liability insurance — one-day event policies were quoted at roughly $180 for $2 million in coverage — was tabled after trustees could not confirm whether a standard certificate of additional insurance covers property damage, with Director Marianne agreeing to consult town counsel Donna and the town's insurer, MIIA, before the board's next meeting April 27. A Friends of the Library representative reported $3,701 raised toward a $15,000 giving day goal, with a $5,000 matching gift available Wednesday and a trivia night fundraiser set for April 11 at the Shutesbury Athletic Club.
