Finance Committee · Meeting of August 18, 2026

SHUTESBURY — The Shutesbury Finance Committee approved its August 3 minutes 5-0 and pushed for clearer PFAS testing cost data ahead of a likely fall special town meeting. Members said the town has about $92,000 available for PFAS work in fiscal 2027, with $63,000 already committed under a new six-month contract with Tighe & Bond, potentially leaving a shortfall of roughly $70,000 to $72,000. Member Susie asked for an itemized "budget justification" from the vendor, saying "isn't it reasonable for us to just ask" for one, while member George cautioned the committee against second-guessing the town administrator's procurement role.

The panel also learned regional school rural aid for fiscal 2027 came in at $83,000, up $23,000 from budget, and asked that a Highway Department salt shed proposal, estimated at $350,000 to $600,000, go through normal capital planning review rather than the fall warrant. The meeting adjourned 6-0 at 8:30 p.m.
